Even though UEFA’s preliminary decision on the punishment for the swastika incident on Poljud was published on July 23rd, and the Croatian Football Federation was punished with a 100 000 EUR fine, one point in the EURO 2016 qualifiers and two home games without spectators, their final decision, or confirmation of their previous one will be announced today.
Croatian Football Federation filed an appeal on the preliminary decision, but consideing that everyone was expecting an even more drastic punishment, appeal was more a curtious gesture than a real attempt to improve the final outcome.
UEFA is not exactly an organisation that has a habit of changing their decisions, maybe some arrangement will be made regarding games thout spectators. But since the spectators were the ones who caused this whole ordeal (and we all know why), Davor Šuker and his entourage is probably hoping for this part of the punishment to remain as it is.
With only two games remaining until the end of qualification rounds for Euro2016 and Croatia in the third place, trailing 2 points behind second placed Norway and 4 points behind Italy, that one lost point could end up costing us the chance to play in this championship.
