It is now official that nothing will come of the Zdravko Mamić extradition to the Republic of Croatia.

BiH Justice Minister Josip Grubeša has signed a decision refusing the request of the Croatian Ministry of Justice that fugitive Zdravko Mamić, a formal advisor to GNK Dinamo Zagreb, is extradited to Croatia, reports Slobodna Dalmacija on January 16, 2019.

“We inform you that the Minister of Justice of Bosnia and Herzegovina, after the Court of BiH has found that the legal preconditions (legal conditions) for extraditing Zdravko Mamić from BiH to the Republic of Croatia have not been fulfilled, issued a decision refusing the request of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Croatia for the extradition,” confirmed Grubeša’s Cabinet.

The same decision was made by the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina earlier claiming that the legal conditions for extradition were not met.

Recall, Zdravko Mamić was sentenced to six and a half years in prison in June 2018. His brother Zoran was sentenced to four years and 11 months, tax official Milan Pernar was sentenced to 4 years and two months, and Damir Vrbanović to 3 years.

According to the verdict read by President of the Judicial Council Darko Krušlin, Zdravko Mamić et all were found guilty on all counts in the case of siphoning 116 million kuna from Dinamo Zagreb and defrauding the state budget of around 12.2 million kuna in unpaid taxes and surtaxes.

Before the verdict was announced, Mamić fled Croatia and ended up in Medjugorje. The hotel “Villa Regina” in the area, owned by the Vasilj family, is said to be his permanent address of residence since.

Mamić’s case was helped by the fact that he is a citizen of Bosnia and Herzegovina, but also by the fact that the criminal offense he was convicted of was committed before the signed agreement between BiH and Croatia.
