August the 22nd, 2026 – Croatia is soon set to get a brand new 10,000 seat stadium, with the new construction likely to boost the overall perception of sport in Slavonski Brod.

Slavonski Brod is continuing its major project to renovate and expand the Stadion kraj Save (Stadium by the Sava), home of football club NK Marsonia. Poslovni reports that the works are being carried out in stages, and according to the final vision the stadium should eventually have four modern stands and a capacity of 10,000 seated spectators.

The current primary focus is on the new section of the southern stand. The reinforced-concrete structure has been completed, the steel structure of the canopy and the roof have been installed, and work is now concentrated on the facade, installations and fitting-out of the interior spaces. A solar power plant has also been installed on the roof. The new part of the stand will cover around 840 square metres and will have 666 seats. In addition to the seating area, the building will contain media and technical staff rooms, a restaurant, police facilities, a medical point, toilets, a ticket office and a mix zone for player and coach interviews.

Interior finishing works are under way, including painting, installation of electrical equipment and fitting-out of sanitary facilities. At the same time the heating and cooling system is being completed, and the connection of the solar power plant to the public electricity grid is nearing completion.

The value of the contracted works on this section of the southern stand is just over 3.18 million euros including VAT. This forms part of a multi-year investment in the sports complex by the Sava. Earlier, a new eastern stand with a total of 1,200 seats was built, auxiliary pitches with artificial turf were arranged, and additional facilities for sports clubs were added.

According to the conceptual design, the ultimate goal is a stadium with four modern stands and a capacity of 10,000 spectators, which would give Slavonski Brod a venue ready for a significantly higher level of football. Interestingly, the infrastructure development is currently far ahead of the sporting status of the stadium’s main user. Marsonia finished last season in the 3. NL East (the fourth tier of Croatian football) and last played in the top flight in the 2003/04 season. If the project continues according to plan, in the coming years Slavonski Brod will get one of the most modern and interesting football stadiums in all of Croatia.
