“Croatia Volunteers” will be held from May 22-27, 2017, in 55 Croatian cities.

The Croatian network of volunteer centers is organizing the event “Croatia Volunteers”, which aims to encourage as many citizens, organizations, and institutions from all over Croatia to volunteer in a variety of socially useful activities, reports Dalmacija Danas on May 17, 2017.

This year, the event will be held from May 22 to 27, 2017, in 55 Croatian cities. Throughout the event, many volunteers will participate in various voluntary activities in order to encourage their contribution to building a happier and better community. The event is held in synergy with the Association Danima otvorenih vrata, and is organized by the Government Office for Cooperation with NGOs and the Festival Gledaj (u)druge, which indicates the many benefits associations bring to the people they help and the communities in which they operate.

The list of volunteer activities that will be held within the event can be found here, and everyone is invited to find something that inspires them to volunteer during the event.

This year’s campaign is guided by the saying of an unknown author which reads:

“Volunteering is democracy in action. Elections are usually held once a year, and volunteering can be done every day, allowing you to choose the community you want to live in.

This event particularly hopes to increase awareness of the importance of people’s roles in their community and promote the value and contribution that volunteering has on the development of democracy and active citizenship.

In modern society, volunteering is encouraged and valued as one of the key drivers of development, the formation of democratic change, and a stable social environment. The phenomenon of volunteering makes us more sensitive to others and more willing to make the commitment to create change in society, humanism and the sustainable development of society.

This year’s event hopes to remind everyone just how much volunteering brings to every individual, the community in which they live, and thus society as a whole. Volunteers are not only supporters, but they are the initiators of the positive changes. Volunteering is the right of every individual to their commitment to creating a community they want to live in.”
