HTZ rewards Pascal Tang for his great video
For several years now, one of the main components of every marketing strategy devised by the National Croatian Tourist Board a is viral campaign. They have been talking about it, brainstorming about it, heck one director even got fired over it ( remember how lack of a viral campaign was one of the reasons mentioned when HTZ sacked Meri Matesic), and yet, no viral campaign was ever developed, let alone implemented.
In the last few days, Croatian media has been swamped by a brilliant video promoting Croatia and of course it wasn’t done by any of the agencies we pay so dearly, or by the National Croatian Tourist Board. It was done by a French tourist Pascal Tang who had so much fun during his stay in Croatia that he decided to document it and tell the world. The rest is history, or one great lesson in advertising for our state appointed tourist board directors with over 200 000 hits in 24 hours (take into account that video was posted on Vimeo and not on YouTube). If you missed it, you can watch it HERE.
After the video took the media by storm in a very unusual fashion, you see, someone posted it on the Government’s Facebook wall, National Croatian Tourist Board decided to get out of their self imposed hibernation, heck, it’s summer, tourism is working on its own anyway. But even that didn’t happen from within HTZ. Hundreds of public comments asking for HTZ to track down this fabulous young man and offer him another free stay in Croatia resulted in Director Ratomir Ivičić flying to Paris to reward Pascal Tang for his effort.
We still don’t know whether they decided to reward him with a free stay in Croatia but we’re happy to see they’ve finally reacted to public opinion. As they would say, Eppur si muove!
