Another huge number of people and another record for one of Dubrovnik’s most popular attractions.
Niko Kapetanic, the President of the Association of Friends of Dubrovnik Antiquities (Drustvo Prijatelja Dubrovacke Starine) confirmed on Monday 22nd August, that on Thursday 11th August, the record for the daily amount of visitors walking the Dubrovnik’s famous city walls was smashed, as 10,338 tickets were sold in just one day.
Niko Kapetanic stated that he expects August 2016 to be the record breaking month in the history of Drustvo Prijatelja Dubrovacke Starine and that numbers will exceed 200 thousand visitors, this means that the number of daily visitors to the city walls averages at around 7000.
Up to now, the current record number of daily visitors was held at 9078, and was achieved on 16th July 2016. Last year 994,000 guests visited the city walls.
As demand is so obviously increasing with more and more tourists pouring into Dubrovnik en masse, so is the price, beginning as soon as 2017, a ticket to enter and walk the city walls will cost 150kn instead of 120kn, which is todays rate for foreign visitors and non residents. The cost for children, university students, veterans of the Homeland War and people with disabilities will make a 20kn jump from 30kn to 50kn.
