Advent in Zagreb has achieved new records in 2018.
Namely, on December 25th, results showed that there is a 12% increase of visitors to Zagreb than last year, who spent 16% more than in 2017. Most guests are from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Austria, Slovenia and Italy, as well as Singapore, Malaysia, and the Philippines, reports HRTurizam on December 29, 2019.
And apart from the real world, Zagreb is also a hit in the virtual world, says the director of the Zagreb Tourist Board Martina Bienenfeld:
“We received an analysis that as many as 38 million people around the world Googled or researched the concept of Advent in Zagreb. This was much stronger than in Vienna or any other city that organizes Christmas fairs or events. It is indeed a great thing and very positive.”
A favorite destination of locals is the Upper Town (Gornji grad) and Maksimir, while foreigners have been spending most of their time at the Advent in the Lower Town (Donji grad). Still, despite the excellent results, there is always room for improvement.

“It seems to us that in some places, we need to try to make less noise, and try to reduce some of the crowds with an even greater reduction in the number of catering facilities. This is, according to our results and the criticism we get from fellow citizens and guests, something that we ought to be serious about next year,” concludes Bienenfeld.
Last year, Advent in Zagreb saw 36,380 (11% increase) in the arrivals of Croatian tourists and 74,327 (30% increase) in foreign tourists, while for the total number of overnight stays, Croatian tourists realized 61,078 (15% increase) and foreign tourists 138,674 (27% increase). Most foreign arrivals were from Italy, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Austria, Slovenia, Germany and overnight stays from Italy, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Austria, Slovenia, Germany.
According to estimates last year, Advent generated more than half a billion kuna, though this year the expected growth is even higher in this segment as visitors increase.
