As Zagreb tourism continues its rapid expansion, so too is its airport getting busier. A look at what you need to know if flying through Airport Franjo Tuđman in Zagreb.
Airport Franjo Tuđman in Zagreb (known also as Airport Pleso) is the biggest airport in Croatia and it is located in Velika Gorica, some 10 km from the centre of Zagreb. Even though it is the busiest airport in Croatia, it is a relatively small airport by European standards, with around 2.5 million passengers a year. Seeing that this is also the maximum capacity of the airport, in addition to the existing main terminal, a second terminal building is under construction, set to open in March 2017 with a passenger capacity of 5.5 million.
The current terminal building is very small, and finding a chair in the waiting area can be very tricky. There is a resting area where you can lounge around that very few people know of – you can reach it if you climb the stairs on the right side of the check in desks, near the security check.

There are regular buses to and from the airport, taking you to the main bus terminal in Zagreb in about 30 min. The buses are located in front of the terminal building, and they run every half an hour, from 4:30 (from the bus terminal) and 7:00 AM (from the airport), until 8 PM. A single ride costs 30 kn, so they are significantly cheaper than taxis. Check the timetable here. Alternatively – and the cheapest way into town – is to walk out of the airport to the main road into Zagreb (about 1 kilometre), and on the right hand side, you will see a bus stop which will take you into the centre on a regular bus route for 12 kuna.
You can find various taxis in front of the terminal building as well. The taxis that are available there are more expensive than the other taxi companies from Zagreb, so it is going to cost around 150-200 kn to get to the centre, whereas getting from the centre to the airport would cost around 100 kn (if you take any of the bigger taxi companies, such as Cammeo, Eko taxi, Radio Taxi or Zebra).
There are various ATMs, a post office, exchange, and two cafés in the building, but there is no left luggage. There are also various rent-a-car desks if you want to rent a vehicle. When it comes to connectivity at the airport, you get 15 min of Internet access for free, and you have to pay if you wish to use it any further. There is also an Internet corner where you can pay and surf the Internet some more if you like.
If you are dropping somebody of, or someone is picking you up, bear in mind that 10 min is the maximum that you can stay in the Kiss & Fly zone for free. If you want to stay longer, you need to park your car in one of the parking spaces, which costs 27 kn an hour. Check out the parking plan below.
