BESA theatre festival will return for its 6th edition in August 2018 on Vis and Svetac islands
Looking for a creative way to spend your summer holiday this year? We recently presented Telašćica Nature Park’s volunteer programme – check that out if you missed the announcement. In case cleanup actions are not really your jam and you’d prefer something that would allow you to express yourself in company of other creative minds… all good, we’ve got you covered.
BESA Theatre from Vis island is preparing the 6th edition of BESA Festival that will take place on the islands of Vis and Svetac in August 2018. The annual manifestation aims to assemble theatre artists and other individuals interested in participating as performers or educators, encouraging an exchange of knowledge and experience, engaging people in a dialogue and allowing them to pursue new professional and creative opportunities.
BESA is the only professional island theatre in Croatia, one that continuously presents the audience with talented performers and attractive shows set to an unforgettable backdrop – the natural scenery and charming historical landscape of Vis island. The ambiance, architecture and Mediterranean cultural heritage serve as a unique set for theatre plays that are enjoyed by local and foreign audiences. Their performances tend to have a visual, non-verbal character and are thus approachable for locals and tourists, children and adults alike.
The theatre’s mission is to acquire an estate on Vis island and turn it into an art colony of sorts, a project that would unite sustainable ecological development and performing arts. They’re implementing eco-conscious practices such as waste sorting and recycling, using eco soap and cleaning supplies, and buying fresh produce from local farmers, constantly striving to do better with each passing year. Just look at their campsite on Svetac island, a perfect destination for anyone wishing to enjoy a robinson-style holiday: there are no roads on the island, no stores, no restaurants, just an idyllic camp waiting for the next round of residents eager to revel in the summer sun and a much-needed getaway from the urban jungle.
