More good flight news for 2016, with Finnair expanding its operations, with crucial Asian connections.
With peak season still in full swing, the good news for season 2016 is starting to trickle in.
Flights to Croatia have seen a significant seasonal increase in recent years, and one airport in particular has been successful in attracting new carriers. After the near collapse of its main source of arrivals in 2013 due to visa restrictions as a result of EU entry (40% of all arrivals were from Russia), Pula Airport has worked hard to shed itself of its Russian dependency, with spectacular results, and the Istrian entry point has more than made up for its Russian losses with a range of new flights for 2015 from Western Europe and Scandinavia.
This is a trend which looks set to continue in 2016, as Finnish national carrier Finnair has announced a new route to Pula for 2016, connecting with many flights from Asia, accordint to Travel Daily News:
“Finnair will continue to increase its Croatia service with two weekly flights between Helsinki and Pula, from 20 June to 12 August 2016. Pula is situated at the southern tip of the Istrian peninsula, overlooking the Adriatic. Pula’s well preserved Roman amphitheatre is one of the most famous sights in the whole of Croatia. Finnair also flies to Dubrovnik and Split, offering a total of 14 weekly flights to Croatia. Finnair will also increase its Split service, with two additional weekly flights next summer. All of Finnair’s Croatia flights connect with Asian destinations to cater to the increasing demand from Asia to the Adriatic Sea.”
