We think it’s safe to say that Split Airport was Croatia’s busiest airport this summer.
While Split Airport broke all records this year and recorded their two millionth passenger at the end of August (a month earlier than last year), the Dalmatian capital’s travel hub sent off more than a hundred flights a day during the summer season, directly linked to 60 airlines. This year, the capital of Dalmatia was connected to 105 destinations around the world, reports HRTurizam on October 10, 2017.
Split Airport is no stranger to growth, however, and the popular airport has recorded an increasing number of passengers every year over the past five years. Precisely, the airport has seen a rise in passengers from 1.6 million in 2013 to last year’s record of 2.3 million.
Low-cost carriers are the most critical group in Split, which brings over half of the passengers to the airport. According to air traffic announcements so far, the positive trend in traffic and passengers, as well as flights, continues in the postseason. It is also interesting to note that the number of passengers has doubled over the past ten years, something that is usually common for airports to achieve in 15 years. We’d like to think all of this further proves the exceptional success of this Croatian airport.
Split Airport is also currently receiving a much-needed upgrade in the form of a new passenger terminal. The new 35,000 square meters terminal has secured funding and should see completion by the end of 2018. You can read more about the project here.
Ex Yu Aviation
Split Airport was undoubtedly the country’s busiest airport this year, recording over 421,000 passengers in September, reports ExYuAviation on October 3, 2017. That is a 23.3% increase from last year.
In the first three-quarters of this year, Split Airport greeted 2.544.262 passengers (+23.6%) and predicts welcoming 2.7 million passengers by the end of 2017. To put this number into perspective, last year saw only 2.289.987 passengers.
So far as new flight announcements go, Spanish low-cost airline Volotea has also announced a new Split – Palermo line which will begin on June 27, 2018, once a week, on Wednesdays. A smaller Boeing 717-200 aircraft will fly on this route. The Venice to Split line will also receive an additional weekly flight next year.
What a year it has been.
