Croatia Airlines Registers Record Profit, Criticises Zagreb Airport

Total Croatia News

Even though the airline has achieved excellent results, it seems that their relationship with Zagreb Airport hasn’t been that great.

As EX-YU Aviation reported on November 1, 2017, the flag carrier of Croatia, Croatia Airlines, has registered strong financial results in the past nine months – the company’s profit is EUR 13.4 million, compared to EUR 609,600 last year.

The amazing results are certainly connected to the fact that Croatia Airlines sold its weekly slots at Heathrow to Delta for EUR 18 million in January. There has been a 10% increase in expenditure, but also an 18% increase in revenue when compared to 2016.

However, the carrier’s relationship with the new terminal at the country’s biggest airport has been problematic.

“Given the shortcomings the airline noticed during the testing phase of the terminal (some of which have still not been resolved), as well as the regular operational incidents since the opening of the facility, there is a growing risk in providing and maintaining product quality, i.e. Croatia Airlines’ schedule, which directly impacts on the unplanned increase in operating costs, delays, passenger dissatisfaction and the company’s image,” the airline said for EX-YU Aviation.

The carrier has seen a record of 1,654,396 passengers in the first nine months of 2017, representing a total increase of 9.1%, in addition to a 5.8% increase in domestic and 11% increase in international flights.
There have also been more passengers, more charter flights, loads and cargo.

Due to problems with the new terminal at Franjo Tuđman International Airport, however, there has been a 38% increase in the number of delayed flights, and Croatia Airlines has criticized the airport’s handling of passenger transfer, as well as their baggage and the supply of fuel.

Zagreb Airport said that they held regular meetings to try and remedy the situation, adding that problems tend to occur at new airports due to new technologies and procedures, but that they would do their best to try and solve them.
