October 21, 2018 – Continuing our look back at Croatia as it once through online videos, a look at three gems of Croatian tourism before the crowds – Plitvice Lakes, Dubrovnik and Split.

The world is getting smaller, tourism increasing and destinations more popular than ever. While tourism brings much-needed revenue to countries like Croatia (about 20% of GDP), there is no denying that the crowds are having an effect on the tourist destinations themselves.

How things much have been different 80 years ago, as our latest video looking back at Croatia as it once was, shows.

Today Plitvice Lakes welcomes more than a million visitors a year, and it has a very well-developed infrastructure to deal with those crowds, but back in 1939, this most natural of tourist attractions was an even more wonderful phenomenon of nature, as this German tourist’s short video reveals.

And who cannot wonder at the views of Split from the sea without all the modern apartment blocks that not surround Diocletian’s Palace and the historic centre. And charming and timeless Ragusa, or Dubrovnik as we know it today. Delightful.
