Croatia keeps crushing records this year!
Since the beginning of this year until mid-June, excellent results have been achieved in Croatian tourism – recording a 22 percent increase in tourist arrivals and a 24 percent increase in overnight stays compared to the same period last year. This data is just further confirmation that this tourism year will continue to break records, writes the Ministry of Tourism on June 20, 2017.
This weekend will be another long one in June and is associated with observing today’s Day of Anti-Fascists Struggle in Croatia, during which a further boost in tourist traffic is expected by domestic tourists, stated Minister Cappelli on Wednesday when commenting on the current course of the tourist year.
From January 1, 2017, until June 18, 2017, data from the Croatian National Tourist Board (HTZ) and the systems eVisitor and eCrew recorded a little more than 4.5 million tourists and 16.1 million overnight stays.
“Since the beginning of the year until mid-June, Croatia was visited by 4.5 million tourists, which is 22 percent more than last year, while 16 million overnight stays displays an increase of 24 percent. These are excellent results, but if we look at only June, the tourist turnover has nearly doubled in growth and is currently up around 40 to 50 percent, which is an excellent announcement for the continuation of the tourist year,” added Cappelli.
Most of the total overnight stays, or nearly 4 million, were made by German tourists, while domestic tourists recorded 2.1 million overnight stays. Austrians fell to third place with 1.6 million overnight stays, Slovenes came in fourth with nearly 1.2 million overnight stays, and tourists from the United Kingdom came in fifth with just over 952,600 overnight stays.
Dubrovnik has achieved the most overnights thus far (nearly 1.2 million), followed by Zagreb (858,200), Poreč (763,600), Rovinj (760,700) and Split (544,600).
Most overnight stays were made in hotels (7.1 million), private accommodations (3.2 million), and camps (3 million).
The month of June has definitely contributed to these excellent half-year tourism results. From June 1-June 18, 2017, Croatia recorded 1.5 million tourists and almost 6.8 million overnight stays – an increase of nearly 50%!
In June, German tourists made the most overnight stays, followed by Austrians tourists, while domestic tourists came in third place ahead of the Slovenians and tourists from the UK.
