Croatian Municipalities Joining Forces to Form Joint Tourist Boards

Total Croatia News

Total Croatia News has previously reported on the immense number of tourist boards existing in Croatia: while tourism is and will be the most lucrative industry in Croatia, many others have also wondered if it’s really necessary for every single municipality in Croatia to have their own tourist board. And, these days, from two quite distant and different part of Croatia similar news have arrived, as municipalities in Međimurje and a part of Dalmatia have decided to create joint tourist boards!

First of those stories from Međimurje is brought by hrturizam.hr, which reports that the municipalities of Lower Međimurje (Sveta Marija, Donji Vidovec, Kotoriba and Donja Dubrava.) and the town of Prelog have gotten together in a meeting with the idea to brand Lower Međimurje as a separate destination. Upper Međimurje has in the past found their way to make themselves attractive to an increasing number of tourists, but Lower Međimurje has not found a way to show their full tourist potential to their guests. They are hoping that, by joining forces and working together, it will be easier to present the value of Donje Međimurje as a tourist destination. They explain that the valued tradition is one of their strong selling points, as well as cycling tourism.

In Dalmatia, tourist boards of Makarska, other municipalities in the Makarska Riviera, Imotski and Vrgorac are also on their way to form a cluster, as Večernji list reports. The idea of the cluster is to promote the entire region as one destination as well, since the tunnel through St. Ilija mountain has brought all those places together and they make a logical unit, which has already been recognized by many tourists frequenting the villas in inland Dalmatia. The joint tourist board will be formed based on the model created on Hvar, where they will maintain their formal separation but will work together on the promotion of their destination.

A similar thing happened in Gorski Kotar, where the tourism minister Gari Capelli participated in a formal signing ceremony, in which the agreement for the creation of the tourist brand of the Gorski Kotar region was signed. The participants in the agreement are Croatian Tourist Board, Kvarner Tourist Board, the county and tourist boards of Brod Moravice, Čabar, Delnice, Fužine, Lokve, Mrkopalj, Ravna Gora, Skrad and Vrbovsko.

Here’s to hoping that those initiatives and joint tourist boards prove successful and help create tourist brands for those regions!
