August 15, 2023 – If Croatia is known for its gastronomy, cheese is an essential ingredient. And in that world, Gligora surely leads the way. At this year’s Great Taste Awards, four different types of cheese from Gligora cheese & deli won exceptional awards.
The Great Taste Awards are considered one of the world’s most trusted awards for food and drink – their mark on the product is a sure sign to the customer that they are buying a very tasty product, to say the least.
More than 14,000 products from all over the world participated in this year’s competition. All nominated products are ranked according to various qualities, including taste, texture, and ingredients. A team of experts then decides whether the product will make the Great Taste list and how many stars it will be awarded:
3 stars: exceptionally delicious food – only about 1.5% of products annually receive 3 stars, your sign to not think twice and pick it up off the shelves.
2 stars: more than delicious – 10% of products receive this rating.
1 star: food or drink that tastes fantastic. Approximately 30% of entries will receive this rating each year.
And this year, as many as four types of cheese from Gligora cheese & deli won 2 stars each: Pag cheese (PDO), Pag cheese (PDO) extra mature, Kozlar aged in pressed olive skins, and Kozlar aged in pressed wine grapes.
The Jury’s Opinions
One of the judges commented on the extra-aged Pag cheese: “This is a cheese with a confident appearance, robust size, and beautiful texture. It brings sweet and salty to the palate, without overwhelming you with the excessive taste of sheep’s milk, which impressed us. We kept going back for more… which by definition means we liked it. A real sign of pleasure and expertise in the making.”
“A really exciting goat’s cheese to which the olives give an exceptional sheen. We couldn’t stop exploring both the rind and the paste for the different levels of nuttiness and creaminess it offers.”
Gligora cheese & deli reports that they are extremely satisfied with this year’s achievement and the reactions of the jury at the Great Taste Awards.
