In 2017, Croatia Recorded Double-Digit Increase in Number of Tourists

ZAGREB, February 13, 2018 – Some 17.4 million tourists stayed in commercial accommodation in Croatia in 2017 and generated 86.2 million overnight stays, which are increases of 13% and 10.6% respectively compared to 2016, the National Bureau of Statistics (DZS) said on Tuesday.

About 90% of the tourists were foreigners. Their number increased by 14% to 15.6 million and the number of overnight stays generated by them rose by 11.3% to 80.2 million.

Croatian tourists accounted for 1.8 million arrivals, an increase of 5%, and they generated nearly 6 million overnight stays, which is almost 3% more than in 2016. They were the fourth largest group of tourists from around 100 countries who visited Croatia last year.

Traditionally, the most numerous were Germans (2.6 million, up 15.2%), and they also generated the largest number of overnight stays (19.5 million, up 14.4%). They were followed by Slovenians and Austrians (both 1.3 million, 7 million overnight stays), Italians, Britons, the Dutch, Hungarians and Slovaks.
