We drove around Cres island yesterday, now we’re off to Lošinj, the Island of Vitality

It’s funny, unlike Cres where we tend to explore and look for new interesting places, on Lošinj island we always stick to the same route. First we pass through Mali Lošinj (little Lošinj), home of the renowned Apoxyomenos statue.

The promenade is lined with cafés, boutiques and souvenir shops, metal stands weighed down by hundreds of colourful magnets. Overall a bit too ‘touristy’ for my taste, but easy on the eye nonetheless…

Then we go further to Veli Lošinj, one of my favourite island towns in general. Crickets chirping a love song to high noon, people clinging to narrow patches of shade on the edges of streets, hidden courtyards…

Toy-like trucks brightening your day… Ape dell’amore literally means love bee, but it’s also the name of the vehicle model in the photo – the Italian Piaggio Ape, named after busy, hard-working little bees. And yes, it’s the same manufacturer that produces the famous Vespa, whose name translates to wasp.

Instead of municipal guards, Lošinj has seagulls monitoring the area:

The diligent security fleet deserves a break as well:

When you stray away from the centre of Veli and take a path curving along the shore, you’ll end up in Rovenska bay…

You’ll find impromptu art everywhere you turn:

A lot of vibrant imagery to take in, especially in the span of a single day. Then the time comes to go back and wait in line for the ferry, already counting days before you set off to a new journey…
