Croatia’s coastal cities of Dubrovnik, Split and Zadar are increasingly big players on Europe’s beach tourism scene. But the country’s inland capital remains relatively overlooked.
There are many reasons why this is a mistake, but for those in the know it is also a boon — the city’s relatively quiet, untouristy streets only add to its appeal.
The lowdown:
With a relatively small population of around a million, Zagreb is not trying to compete with the likes of Barcelona and Berlin in the city stakes. But it really punches above its weight when it comes to its culture, history and food and drink scene.
