Is the peak season over for 2015?

In the two main transit hubs in the Split area, the airport and the ferry-port, pressure of passengers is lower than in previous weeks, with a noticeably larger number of departures than arrivals, reports Slobodna Dalmacija on August 29, 2015.

Since the beginning of the year, the Resnik airport has seen more than 1.4 million passengers. Head of arrivals and departures at the Split Resnik airport Mate Melvan said that during Saturday more than 25,500 passengers and 105 aircraft will pass through the airport. “We have recorded a cumulative annual increase of ten percent, and we expect that by the end of the month more than 1.4 million passengers will have used our services. In August, we had an increase of eight percent in the number of passengers. This year, we have had 130,000 passengers more than in the same period last year”, said Melvan.

The end of the main part of the tourist season can be felt in the Split ferry-port as well, where long lines have been a constant sight for months. Jadrolinija’s manager Ante Mrvica says that the season is not over yet, because more senior tourists like to travel in the late summer. During the weekend, 8000 vehicles and 45,000 passengers are expected in both directions.

“This morning, the crowds in the port were noticeably smaller than the kind we were used to seeing during the height of the tourist season. There are more people who are returning from the islands, which is why we have introduced an additional line from Supetar. Fortunately, the weather is still nice, the temperatures go up to 32, 33 degrees, and that continues to lure tourists to go to the islands. In this time of the year, these are usually older people who do not like large crowds, so they use our port during the month of September”, said Mrvica.
