This year, visitors to Advent in Makarska will be delighted by the ’Christmas Town’ in a brand new location. The new ‘Christmas Town’, which launched the construction on the holiday cottages on Monday, will be featured at the Jure Radić Promenade.
“We decided to change the complete concept of this Christmas event for many reasons. Perhaps not the most important thing, but the first reason is that the former location – Kačić Square in Zone 1, is protected by the Ministry of Culture, the competent Conservation Department in Split. Every year we have been reminded of the damage to the stone square when the cottages are set up. In cooperation with the Conservation Department, with whom we have excellent cooperation in relation to other projects, we have decided to do what is needed to protect the square from further devastation. Secondly, the Christmas city was developed as a fun party for children, and over the years there has been little room for the children – so, we wanted to change that. The third reason is related to the second, and that is to say that we will have an ice skating rink, which was at the Makarska Advent for the first time last year, at Tin Ujević Square. We tried to combine these two stories successfully. We have done it more or less successfully, but we have not been 100% satisfied,” Makarska deputy mayor Dražen Nemčić said for Dalmacija Danas on November 19, 2018.
“It can always be better. As we wanted a larger ice rink, we decided to move it to the Hotel Osejava parking lot and to include Park Jure Radić, which, during the Craft beer festival in Makarska, was a well-received location. These two locations will be united. We have a totally different story for the Christmas town. In the parking lot there will be a 300 square meter ice skating rink, measuring 30 × 10 meters, and in the ‘Christmas Town’, there will be 12 holiday homes which are up for a public call until Friday. We will have five shops at the entrance, and one smaller one is foreseen if someone wants to offer fritule or something smaller. In the part between the small and large parking lot and the Osejava hotel, there will be a small park with a train and entertainment for children.
There will be two stages at the new site, one big one that will be in the parking lot and one smaller inside the park itself. This whole site will be illuminated by lights to make it look spectacular,” added Nemčić.
“The opening of the Advent in Makarska is on December 1, 2018, with the concert of Mia Dimšić, a songwriter and upcoming star on the Croatian music scene that has recently filled the Arena,” announces Nemčić, who added that Mladen Grdović will also play New Year’s Eve, which guarantees a great time going into 2019.
