According to Manchester Evening Times, “Zagreb’s relaxed way of life is a contrast to the whirring multitude of a metropolis like Rome or Paris”
Even though the British media have mostly been covering the Croatian coast and the islands recently, Zagreb has also had its fair share of being in the limelight, especially since it was named Top European destination by the Lonely Planet and UK-based carrier Monarch started their service from Zagreb to London and Manchester.
Susie Beever of Manchester Evening News writes that Zagreb is an “unspoiled heaven” where you can go if you want to avoid overpriced food and drinks that you get at the coast. One of the positive things the author mentions about Zagreb is the fact that not every corner is filled with Starbucks and H&M stores, as well as the relaxed way of life, with two-hour coffee sessions with friends or three- hour lunch breaks.
The article continues that part of Zagreb’s allure comes from the fact that, unlike many European capitals, it has managed to preserve its authenticity and not everything seems to be made just to attract tourists, which is the case in Amsterdam and Rome, for example, where everything is Americanized.
Must see attractions include St. Mark’s Church, Museum of Broken Relationships, Grič Tunnel and Mirogoj, and škripavac cheese and Swiss chard are mentioned as foods you have to try.
The article concludes that Zagreb’s location makes it a perfect starting point for a vacation in Croatia because it is a short drive away from all the other places in Croatia you have to visit.
