With over 1,000 islands along the Croatian coast, it is hard to choose one of the ‘best’ but Maslinica on Šolta definitely deserves the title “Best Authentic (small town) Coastal Destination”.
I have been mildly obsessed with Šolta this year but it seems I am not the only one; Maslinica on the island Šolta has just been awarded the “Best Authentic Coastal Destination (small town)” at the Days of Croatian Tourism (DHT). Maslinica was in this category and running for the title with Sali (Dugi Otok) and Postira Brač but it was Maslinica who was the winner on the night.
The Šolta Tourist Board Director Zorana Kaštelanac accepted the award from the Director of the Croatian Tourist Board, Kristijan Staničić and the State Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism, Tonči Glavina.
Zorana said: “Our efforts paid off and we can be very happy and proud, Maslinica really deserved to take the victory in this category.”

Šolta has received a lot of love this year, Hollywood actress Eva La Rue, praised Šolta and Martinis Marchi; and, international media have also shone a spotlight on this (no longer) hidden gem.
We also visited Šolta this year for a number of occasions, one of our highlights was being shown around by Zorana in a unique way – by kayak! How many Tourist Board Directors do you think would show their guests around like this? Which only goes to show the passion and enthusiasm that this tiny island possesses.
I was immediately impressed with everything Šolta has to offer, from adventure and gastronomy to its tranquillity. The term “authentic destination” is absolutely fitting, the slogan from Visit Šolta is “A Return to Innocence”, they are focusing on rejuvenating the island and villages while making sure it retains its tradition and authenticity.
Congratulations to Maslinica and Šolta for this wonderful achievement and we look forward to visiting again in the 2018 season.
