Brijuni islands are about to get even more attractive.
The public institution ‘National Park Brijuni’ signed a contract with the Government on Thursday, securing state-provided funding required for an ambitious renovation project, reports Poslovni dnevnik on October 6, 2017.
Named ‘Novo ruho Brijuna’ (Brijuni’s New Look), the project calls for an investment of 33.6 million kuna, 90% of that amount covered by EU funding. According to the contract signed yesterday, the remaining 3.2 million kuna will be provided by the Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund.
The project is part of a large-scale initiative titled ‘Promoting Sustainable Use of Natural Heritage in National Parks and Nature Parks’. Brijuni’s New Look will thus be the most valuable undertaking in the history of the archipelago, as the project entails improving the visitor infrastructure, modernising all tourist activities, diversifying the excursion offer, and enriching the educational and presentational content.
Veliki Brijun island is about to get a renovated Summer Cinema and a revamped Natural History exhibition, while the Živa Voda well and the compressor station will both undergo renovation works in order to better present the hydrogeological features of the archipelago. The project also entails a makeover of the hiking trail under Straža hill in a way that will best present the forest ecosystem. As a finishing touch, the island will get a new information point where visitors will be able to get all information they need to get the most out of their trip.
Mali Brijun island will see a renovation of seven objects in the port that will lead to an expansion of the educational content of the park, as well as a higher quality of available activities, accommodation and hospitality offer. The management plans to introduce multi-day educational programmes for young children and students, as well as to accommodate artists, scientists and researchers who wish to work on Brijuni.
To ensure the visitors are provided with maximum comfort, Brijuni will introduce a new hybrid ship able to accommodate 150 passengers. That’s not all on the transport front – two new excursion trains, each able to carry 80 visitors, will better connect all the attractions on the island.
Let’s not forget the most important thing: behind every respectable institution, there is a superbly organised staff. To make sure the renovated park operates as smoothly as possible, around 100 employees of National Park Brijuni will complete an education programme aiming to improve their communication skills and sales techniques.
Dr Marno Milotić, the new director of National Park Brijuni, stated this is the most valuable project in the history of the institution. “The project is crucial for renovation and future development of the national park; the provided funds will be used to improve and modernise the tourist offer, as well as to present the wider public with enormous potential for development of the Brijuni islands”, said Milotić.
