The Palace Hotel, as part of the unique architectural complex of the old town Loggia, will combine the impressive historical heritage of Venetian and Austrian architecture and luxurious hotel amenities. “The complete renovation of the Palace Hotel is a key investment that confirms the company’s strategic commitment towards the market segment of higher-spending guests and positioning part of our portfolio in a luxury hotel niche, which we believe will increase the competitiveness of not just our facilities, but of the entire destination of Hvar,” said Gordana Tomičić, the company’s CEO.

The hotel’s history dates back to the 13th century, and in 1899 it was opened under the name Spa Hotel Empress Elisabeth, after the favourite Austrian Empress Sisi, who was a generous patron of the construction of the first Hvar hotel. Therefore, the newly-opened Palace Hotel will bear her name – Palace Elisabeth, Hvar Heritage Hotel.

As one of the most beautiful buildings in the region, in addition to the town Loggia, the Palace Elisabeth Hotel is considered one of the symbols of the town of Hvar. Upon completion of the reconstruction, the hotel will offer 45 luxurious larger rooms and suites, instead of the current 73 rooms. With the aim of further positioning the hotel in the luxury segment, it will have an indoor swimming pool, a luxury spa and two outdoor terraces, one of which will serve the new San Marco restaurant, overlooking the central square and the historic core of Hvar, creating an ideal place to enjoy exclusive dishes and local delicacies. The hotel renovation is the latest piece of good news for Croatia’s premier island, which this year is celebrating 150 years of organised tourism in Europe. Four Seasons has also announced a five-star resort on the island, near the town of Stari Grad, and it seems that Hvar will finally be getting the high quality hotel accommodation in line with its elite image. In addition to being the birthplace of organised tourism in Europe with the founding of the Hvar Health Society in1868, Hvar is also home to the oldest public theatre in Europe (built in 1612), with the most UNESCO heritage of any island in the world, and blessed with the most sunshine in Europe. The island is trying to build on that heritage and temperate climate by extending the tourism offer away from the traditional sun and see approach – and with considerable success – Hvar has enjoyed a strong postseason so far in 2018.

All the capacities of Sunčani Hvar hotels are full in October, primarily due to the Days of Croatian Tourism, an event which will take place on October 24 and 25 at the Amfora Hotel.
