A significant hike in parking prices in Dubrovnik.
On Wednesday, the Dubrovnik City Council adopted a decision on the new parking rules in the city. The price of parking in the second zone, which covers almost all the streets around the historic centre of Dubrovnik, has been increased to 40 kuna per hour during the summer period, which represent an increase of one hundred percent. The price increase will enter into force on 1 September, reports Novi List on August 27, 2015.
The changes were made because some inhabitants were dissatisfied with the amendments to the parking rules adopted at the city council session in late July. According to the president of the City Council Mate Franković: “This increase in parking prices, which shall enter into force on 1 September, is for the benefit of the citizens of Dubrovnik.”
“We are aware of the fact that Dubrovnik is highly visited destination during the summer and the historic center is congested with many visitors who want to park as close to the historic centre as possible. In this way, we will relieve parking problem and encourage visitors to go to the public garages or somewhere elsewhere”, said Franković, adding that the citizens of Dubrovnik will be able to purchase monthly tickets and park in the second and the third zones for a very affordable price.
He pointed out that citizens of Dubrovnik can buy a discounted monthly parking ticket for 60 kuna, and the inhabitants of the surrounding municipalities for 120 kuna, regardless of the part of the year.
Councillor Ljubo Nikolić pointed out that the increase in the price of parking helps the people of Dubrovnik who live in and around the historic centre. He added that even those who do not live in Dubrovnik and the surrounding areas can buy weekly, monthly and annual parking tickets.
