“We are roughly a year and a half away from the completion of this project that will connect the south of Croatia (with the rest of the country), which is our main goal: to ensure the integrity of the state territory,” Plenković said.
The project is worth €550 million, of which 357 million is provided by the EU. “This is a project of strategic importance and we are glad that it will be finished a year and a half from now,” the prime minister said.
The CEO of the Hrvatske Ceste road company, Josip Škorić, said that the works were progressing well. He said that the Pelješac peninsula would be connected to the mainland by the bridge by November this year and the bridge would be equipped by January 2022. With the construction of a road junction at Brijest, the bridge would be opened to passenger cars and vehicles weighing up to 7.5 tonnes in March or April 2022.
Plenković is visiting Dubrovnik-Neretva County today. Later on he is scheduled to attend the opening of a student dorm in Dubrovnik and the signing of grant agreements for projects financed from the European Social Fund.
