The results are in from July!
According to data from eVisitor which includes tourist traffic created in commercial and non-commercial facilities and nautical charter (eCrew), the month of July saw 4.6 million arrivals and 30 million overnight stays. Compared to July last year, arrivals are up around 10.5%, and overnight stays are up 11%, reports HRTurizam on August 2, 2017.
Of the total number of arrivals and overnight stays in July, foreign tourists were responsible for 4.3 million arrivals (+ 11%) and 26.7 million overnight stays (+11%), while domestic tourists recorded a growth of 10% in overnight stays.
Minister of Tourism Gari Cappelli commented on the excellent results in July:
“Croatia continued to report record tourist traffic in July, further confirming that it is this year’s hit destination. In total, since the beginning of the year, 7.5 million more overnight stays have been recorded when compared to last year and taking into account the announcements for the rest of the tourist year, Croatia could reach up to 100 million overnight stays this year. Also, given the excellent results in the pre-season and the great news for the season, we expect to achieve significant growth in revenues in tourism, for example, around 700 to 800 million EUR more than last year,” said Cappelli.
In July, most of the overnight stays were made in Istria (7.9 million), Split-Dalmatia County (5.76 million) and Kvarner (5.72 million). Following Kvarner is Zadar County (4.5 million), Šibenik-Knin County (2.3 million), Dubrovnik-Neretva County (2.1 million), Lika-Senj County (1 million) and Zagreb County (251,000). On the continent this July, without counting the city of Zagreb, 307,000 overnight stays were made (+21%). Most of the overnight stays were in Karlovac County (164,000), Krapina-Zagorje County (33,000) and Međimurje County (21,000). When looking at destinations, most of the overnight stays in July were made in Rovinj, Medulin, Poreč, Dubrovnik, Umag and Crikvenica.
Most of the overnight stays in July were made by tourists from Germany (4.8 million), Slovenia (3.9 million9), Poland (2.3 million), the Czech Republic (2.1 million) and Austria (1.9 million). Of the total number of overnight stays, most were made in household accommodations (12.1 million), camps (5.7 million) and hotels (4.8 million), while more than 700,000 overnight stays were made in nautical charter.
When looking at the period from January to July, 2017, 10.4 million arrivals and 53 million overnights were recorded in Croatia. Compared to the same period last year, this is an increase in arrivals of 17%, while the number of overnights grew by 16 %. Of the total number of arrivals and overnight stays, foreign tourists created 9.2 million arrivals (+18%) and 47 million overnights (+16%), while domestic tourists recorded an increase of 11% in arrivals and 15% in overnight stays.
In the period from January to July 2017, most of the overnight stays were made in Istria County (14.7 million), Split-Dalmatia County (9.68 million) and Kvarner County (9.67 million). Following Kvarner is Zadar County (6.8 million), Dubrovnik-Neretva County (4.5 million), Šibenik-Knin County (3.6 million) Lika-Senj County (1.7 million), and Zagreb County (1.7 million). There were 1.1 million overnight stays (+ 19%) on the continent, and most of the overnight stays were made in Karlovac County (318,000), Krapina-Zagorje County (178,000) and in Osijek-Baranja County (102,000).
“In addition to the positive and overall indicators at the national level, the success of this tourist year can also be seen in the results achieved at the destination level. Last year we had five destinations that had more than one million overnight stays, while 12 of our destinations were successful this year. Also, during the first seven months of this year, we achieved 7.5 million overnight stays when compared to the same period last year. A particularly good result has come from the German market which recorded the highest absolute growth of 2 million overnight stays,” said HTZ Chief Operating Officer Kristijan Staničić, adding that the entire tourism sector has reported good results this year.
During the first seven months of 2017, most of the overnight stays were made by tourists from Germany (9.7 million), Slovenia (5.8 million), Austria (4.2 million), Poland (3.3 million), and the Czech Republic (3 million).
The top 10 destinations for overnight stays this year are Dubrovnik, Rovinj, Poreč, Medulin, Umag, Split, Mali Lošinj, Zagreb, Crikvenica and Novalja.
