Total Croatia News

There is at least something in which Croatia is better than most other countries.

Among 137 countries, Croatia, with an average rating of 5.5, shared with Denmark, Oman, Germany, Spain, Qatar, Sweden and Luxembourg, is ranked 13th in the world ranking of the best road infrastructure, reports Index.hr on June 6, 2018.

Accompanying the report of the World Economic Forum on competitiveness for 2017 and 2018, the ranking of road infrastructure quality in 137 countries has been published. The highest average rating of 6.4 was scored by the United Arab Emirates. Some of the most developed countries in the world, such as the United Kingdom, Ireland, Belgium, Italy and Finland, are ranked behind the group of nations which includes Croatia.

Of the countries in the region, Slovenia is at the 51st position, Hungary is 62nd, Serbia 100th, and Bosnia and Herzegovina is 109th. The lowest ranked European country is Ukraine (130th position) with an average rating of 2.4.

“The fact that Croatia has one of the highest-quality motorway networks in the world has also been demonstrated by a recent study on highway safety prepared by the Faculty of Traffic Sciences in Zagreb. The study showed that 96% of motorways in Croatia have a low or medium-low rate of traffic accidents. Only 4% of the motorways have a medium rate, while there are no motorways with a high risk rate. In order to further increase the level of traffic safety, the Croatian Motorways public company will this year invest 90 million kuna in regular maintenance and an extra 300 million kuna in emergency maintenance activities,” according to a statement issued by the state-owned motorway management company.
