The island of Pašman is the right choice for those who want to take a break from the pressures of modern life.

Tkon on the island of Pašman abounds with beautiful sandy beaches, and its coast is touched by the crystal-clear sea. Along the coast, there are many hidden sandy, pebble and rocky coves which offer complete peace and quiet, reports Lokalni.hr on August 26, 2018.

In this environment, particularly on the southern side of the island of Pašman, there are stone fishing cottages, about one hundred of them, offering Robinson Crusoe-style tourist accommodation, as well as wonderful views of the Šibenik archipelago and the Kornati islands.

Visitors and tourists can discover numerous trails and pathways which lead to ancient olive groves and next to winding old drywalls, revealing the connection between the man, the island and the gentle nature. The smell of lush Mediterranean vegetation in pristine nature is complemented by the scents and flavours of numerous local gastronomic specialties, especially those made with sea delicacies, enjoyed in the unique atmosphere of the Mediterranean.

“There are more and more tourists looking for this Robinson Crusoe-style tourism, for the peace and quiet in clean and untouched nature. Still, all such guests, whose numbers are growing every year, also like active holidaying, which is the reason why we are increasingly investing in sports tourism,” explained the Tkon Municipality Tourist Board.

The Straža hill offers the most beautiful views of the Kornati archipelago, Vransko Lake, the Ravni Kotari area and the Velebit mountain. The whole island offers numerous opportunities for sports activities, on the sea and on the land, especially trekking and cycling. For experienced adventurers, the most challenging activity is a trek to Pustograd, a Byzantine fortress from the 6th century located on a hill above the bay of Zaklopica, which also provides unique views of the Pašman Channel.

The municipality of Tkon, in addition to the Tkon and Ugrinić settlements, additionally covers 13 islets, the largest of which are Gangarol, Žižanj and Košara, with many historical sites.

One of these islets, Gnalić, tell a story about the shipwreck which occurred in its vicinity in 1583. It involved a Venetian merchant’s ship carrying luxurious goods to Istanbul. This is one of the most exceptional underwater archaeological sites in the Adriatic Sea, which is being researched by the experts from the Department of Archaeology in Zadar, as well as ARS NAUTIKA – Institute for Maritime Heritage, whose headquarters are located in Tkon.
