Thai AirAsia X to Launch Flights to Croatia?

Croatian airports might start operating low-cost flights to Thailand in 2018.

Thailand’s long haul low-cost carrier is expanding its fleet, so they are considering introducing flights to Croatia in 2018, EX-YU Aviation reports on August 28, 2017.

However, the process needs to be approved by the International Civil Aviation Organisation and the European Aviation Safety Agency first because the Thai carriers have been forbidden from launching new routes or changing aircraft types for two years now, due to Thailand’s aviation safety concerns.

ICAO will perform an audit of the agency upon which the safety deficiency was levelled in September, and the red flag placed on the country’s aviation safety is expected to be lifted in October, maybe even sooner, Bangkokpost reports on August 28, 2017.

According to Bangkok post, Thai AirAsia X CEO Tassapon Bijleveld did not specify which destinations the carrier is looking into, but cited Croatia, the Czech Republic, Austria, Hungary and Poland as possible destinations, adding that they were not looking into major and highly competitive European cities such as London or Paris. He also said that arranging new flights would take six months, so new services could be expected in the second half of 2018.

Minister Gari Cappelli has also recently said that the country should towards non-traditional markets, such as South Korea, Japan, China and Taiwan.
