A new museum, or more accurately a visitor center named “Požega House” (Požeška kuća) is a project by the City of Požega and the Tourist Board of Požega. At Požega House, the tourist offer of the city and its surroundings will be presented to guests as an entire city experience: a fine taste through all four seasons and all five senses, based on historical and cultural values, and eno-gastronomy, with special attention paid to the presentation of local cuisine and wine.

The project, worth 4.5 million kuna, will be partly funded (1.5 million kuna) through the Fund for the Development of Tourism through the Ministry of Tourism, reports HRTurizam and Grad Požega.

“We wanted to create a new and unique experience for visitors to immediately know the most important points of the city to the prominent events, celebrities and flavors of the city for which we are best recognized. A traditional cultural destination becomes new, with creative forms of tourism products and to us it is important to consider that this product is designated for creative tourists who want to experience the atmosphere and learn something new about the destination,” stated Silvija Podoljak, director of the Tourist Board of the City of Požega.

“Požega House will be divided into two parts, a ground floor and basement, each part of which will tell their own story. The ground floor will house an information desk or reception center and rooms dedicated to Fr. Luka Ibrišimović and Baron Franjo Trenk, while the basement will be dedicated to flavors, namely the distinctive flavors of our region. As tourism importantly tells a story, to be innovative and creative, at the Pozega House, instead of tickets, visitors will get a wine cork with a variety of colors that will later be used in an interesting way in an effort to take advantage of the product. There will also be activities such as ‘drunk bicycle’, strategy games for children, fencing with Baron Trenk and much more.”

Podoljak adds, “In the first stage of works we decorated the facade, replaced windows and the roof, and are now working on the interior installations, while the next phase of work will be on the interior design. The third phase covers the interior with equipment and applications such as the ‘drunk bicycle’, strategy games, etc.”

The Mayor of Požega, Vedran Neferović, is optimistic about the new tourism offer in the city.

“I believe that the city, with the completion of this project, will get a new dimension. I think that after these two projects we will find enough motivation for those who want to engage in tourism to increase the accommodation capacity, and a town with this investment enriches the offer and creates the preconditions to get more guests in the city, with events and beautiful parts of the city that can serve for sightseers.”
