August 10, 2023 – As chill and relaxed as Slavonia is in general, there’s always more. And the best little places pop up in the summer. Let’s discover Trbusanci.

Not far from the center of Vinkovci, some five minutes by car, half an hour of pleasant, easy cycling, or a couple hours of walking along the promenade along the Bosut coast, you’ll find the holiday village of Trbušanci, writes Glas Slavonije.

In the ’60s, many people who lived in Vinkovci owned weekend cottages there, initially modest, but more spacious houses were built over time. Many would live there for most of the year, or even the whole year, and leave their apartments or houses in the city to their children. As for its name, it is derived from its location precisely at the place where Bosut makes a bend, like some kind of big belly, and the Croatian word is trbuh, therefore Trbušanci.

This small oasis of peace next to Bosut and not far from the forest has been increasingly interesting for hikers and in recent years for tourists, which prompted the owners to arrange their houses and yards, build swimming pools and additional facilities to welcome them. Seeing the tourist potential of Trbušanci, the City of Vinkovci also got involved. This spring, along with the previously built promenade stretching from the city all the way to Trbušanci, they planted oak and maple trees in several locations that are useful for picnickers and tourists as resting places in the shade.

Over time, Trbušanci became an increasingly interesting tourist destination, which weekenders recognized as a promising business opportunity.

One of them, among the first, is Slaven Rubić, the owner of the holiday house Rubić, which he started renting out in Trbušanci three years ago. So far, he was proven right, with the number of his guests constantly increasing.

“Our idea was to create three-star accommodation in a quiet part of Trbušanci, and after three years, we can say that we are delighted with the number of guests. The number of overnight stays increases yearly; we are extremely pleased that many of our guests return, which is excellent feedback. This is our goal – a satisfied guest who will come back but who will also recommend us to their friends – says Rubić. He adds that at the beginning, they were open to different options. After a while, it turned out that long-term, the way they set up their business was best. They decided to rent their house exclusively to those who would spend the night and stay a day or two instead of just renting the space for celebrations.

There are currently four registered renters in Trbušanci, according to information from the Vinkovci Tourist Board. In addition to holidays, excursionists and tourists go there for bachelor and bachelorette parties, baptisms and confirmations, and birthdays, to mark important dates, but also to enjoy the magical atmosphere of peace, away from the city crowds. There are more and more recreationists, walkers and cyclists, etc. The people from Vinkovci go there to fish, grill, relax by the pool, or in the atmosphere of the Slavonian forest. Educational paths have also been arranged through the woods for everyone to learn about the plant and animal species of the climate along the way.

“This area is attractive because of its peaceful nature, the Bosut River, the sounds of nature, and just the calm feeling it inspires. The town of Vinkovci has a long and interesting history that is worth exploring and learning, and our location is ideal to enjoy the rest of the day. We think that it is a special part of the city with great tourist potential” in the future, “explains Slaven Rubić. His many guests, he proudly notes, who come from all parts of Croatia and Europe, indeed agree.
