September 17, 2023 – After so many average official tourist promo videos, one of true excellence: make your own movie and Visit Kvarner.
I have watched a LOT of official Croatian promo videos in the 13 years I have been writing about Croatian tourism, and very few have left a lasting impression.
With such a beautiful country and so much incredible material to work with, it is hard to make a video about Croatia look bad, but to showcase the destination in an innovative and intelligent way takes a little more imagination.
And about 10 days ago, Visit Kvarner, the Kvarner Regional Tourist Board, managed to do just that, releasing its latest marketing effort on YouTube, called Visit Kvarner – Make Your Own Movie.
What sets this video apart from most of the others – for me, at least – is the way it tells a story, while cramming in (but not that it feels crowded) more information about a destination than I have seen in most other videos. A video which not only showcases the exceptional diversity of Kvarner tourism, but also through the eyes of different tourism segments – families, adventure, culture etc.
As its title suggests, the script is based on the notion of making movies in the destinations. A filming company from the USA is looking for a unique destination which has it all and called the Visit Kvarner Location Manager (on the beach, where else?) for more information. This is followed by another request for a family destination for filming by another client, then another, and another.
The energetic location manager takes us on a tour to show what is on offer, with brilliant results.
A very clever concept and excellent production by Filmerija and Kinoteka for Visit Kvarner. Congratulations to all involved – hopefully it will be watched a lot more than the 20,000 views so far.
