Proof that continental tourism is a hit lies in the rising number of guests visiting Srijem and Slavonia

“Danube, castles, food, wine, tradition and manifestations are the backbone of the offer of Srijem and Slavonia. In the past several years the level of quality diversity of content has been raised significantly so everyone can find something to enjoy. After visiting this part of Croatia you will have a completely new dimension of our land,” said Rujana Bušić Srpak, director of the Vukovar-Srijem County tourism board during the presentation of the tourism offer of this area in the Zagreb wine store Bornstein.

Proof that continental tourism is a hit lies in the rising number of guests visiting Srijem and Slavonia. In the first four months of this year, compared to the same period of 2016, there was an increase of overnights of 127 percent. The season lasts all year in the east of Croatia, with family agricultural and tourism farms part of the rich tourism offer. The Snašini Kućari in Gradište are a reflection of tradition, customs and well-known hospitality of this area.

Martin Božanović came to Zagreb in a double role, as a representative of the Nijemci District tourism board and as captain of the river catamaran Sveta Katarina running on the rivers Bosut and Spačva. “Legend says the old Romans used to say for Bosut that they have in their empire a river that flows one way in the morning and the other in the afternoon. Truly, Bosut flows so slowly sometimes that the wind can change its direction. Nature lovers can be convinced of this when they visit Nijemci in western Srijem, surrounded by fields and forests,” said Martin Božanović and pointed out how visitors will not only experience the rich traditional gastronomy and customs in Nijemci, but also the unbreakable bond of man and nature. Here you can relax alone hunting carp, pike and any of the twenty types of fish living in rivers, and if they visit the Sopotac excursion site, they can view from its observation post the nature and bountiful bird world.

This Srijem native presented to Zagreb visitors the praised Slavonian and Srijem cuisine and specialties. Visiting Srijem and Slavonia and not tasting kulen, kulenova seka or sausages, is equal to sin. They will also offer meals from the kettle spiced with homemade minced paprika, such as fish or meat stew. Definitely try the perch and carp, sarma and the chicken, beef and pork will seem to taste better than anywhere. You will also not resist pancakes, walnut and poppy bread and other sweets. Every meal is preceded by a shot of scented plum brandy and the rich cuisine is accompanied by superior wines from the Srijem vineyards. The most awarded wine cellar in Croatia is based there as well.
