Second annual tuna, sushi and wine festival to be held in Zadar February 3rd-7th, 2016

No wonder Zadar has been elected into the exclusive company of the 20 best destinations in Europe. Here is a superb example of how the tourist season in Dalmatia’s mild climate can be meaningfully extended all year round.

Following up on last years inaugural festival, the Zadar Tourist Board, in collaboration with the NPO JCEA Japanese-Croatian Exchange Association, the Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Croatia in Osaka/Japan and Croatian Ministry of Tourism, has announced the programme of this years event.

The festival is divided into two parts, a professional part of the programme and a public one: The professional section includes education and professional training of the best Zadar and Croatian restaurant chefs in culinary arts by Japanese sushi masters. This will be attended by students of the Zadar School of Hospitality, Tourism and Catering. A multi-day tour of Zadar and Zadar County is planned for Japanese guests, journalists and agents of travel agencies and tour operators, as well as B2B business workshop with Croatian tourist agencies.

The public portion of the festival programme will of course include a week of special cheap offers of tuna specialties in Zadar restaurants, paired with excellent Croatian wines. Plus there will be cultural events for everyone, origami workshops in collaboration with the Archaeological Museum of Zadar, a sale of Japanese hair ornaments by an artist Ms Kusano, a photo exhibition of a Japanese artist in the church of St Donat’s, performances of traditional Japanese wadaiko drummer Kiyo Kito Taiko, presentation of traditional Japanese martial and defensive arts and skills in the performance by Zadar sports clubs, a gala charity evening event in the Arsenal and a large public presentation of all the above mentioned at the main event for the public at the Zadar Forum.

The entire event is a charity event, whose profits are intended for the reconstruction of the School of Hospitality, Tourism and Catering practicum classroom.
