September the 8th, 2026 – There have been 3% more vehicles recorded on Croatian motorways this year than back during this period in 2025.
From the beginning of the year until the end of August, 56.5 million cars passed along Croatian motorways, which is an increase of 1.6 million, or three percent, compared with the same period last year, HRT reports. “Croatia as a tourist country is recognised not only for its natural beauty, but above all for the safety it offers to all tourists, and this increase in traffic is a result of that,” said Ivan Ribičić, Director of the Toll Collection Sector.
Poslovni reports that the busiest periods, according to Ribičić, are the end of July and the beginning of August. “All three summer months were very successful. Compared with last year, that is 300,000 more vehicles. These are excellent results, he said. In the last three to four years, large traffic jams on Mondays have become increasingly frequent. This weekend also exceeded expectations. On Sunday by 18:00, 100,000 vehicles were recorded at the Lučko entrance alone, which is more than last year.
In the autumn, works on the Zagreb bypass are finally due to begin, which should make passage between Zagreb East and Zagreb West easier, as well as access to the Lučko toll booth.
