Rapists who bought freedom in Croatia joking around and celebrating homecoming.
Three Australian men from Melbourne, Dylan Djohan (23), Ashwin Kumar (23) and Waleed Latif (21) who were on holiday in Croatia last July and raped a 17 year old Norwegian girl, have returned to Australia
They managed to escape imprisonment and were sentenced to only one year conditional with a trial period of five years, while for such a heinous crime in their homeland they could have expected approximately 15 years jail time.
A number of media outlets have reported and discussed the case on February 8, 2016, including major British and Australian news sources.
Upon their return to Australia, the three rapists deactivated their various social media accounts and have remained silent.
The crime occurred on July 16, 2015 in a club in Split where they met 17-year-old Norwegian girl who had been backpacking. Following a drinking session with the girl, she was forcibly pushed by one of the men into the men’s bathroom, and soon after came the other two. After being gang raped the terrified Norwegian girl ran to the police and explained what had happened to her. The three men were soon found by police, interviewed and released on parole pending a decision. They were concurrently charged with a severe form of rape, and for such an offence a penalty of anything between 3-15 years imprisonment is to be expected.
Amazingly, the criminals were given a mere one-year suspended sentence with five years probation. The Norwegian victim was paid the equivalent of £20,000 in damages after she agreed to a fine and compensation. In late January the authorities returned their passports and other travel documents and a few days ago they returned relatively unpunished to Australia.
Due to the nature of the punishment, they are forbidden to commit anything that could be classed as a ”similar offence” in Europe, but that penalty does not apply to them on Australian soil.
Australian media in turn have reported on the incident, and information on the trio has come to light, it seems that Dylan Djohan is a 23-year-old promoter in a nightclub and sometimes works in modelling, it has also been revealed that in the past he had a job as what is known as a naked waiter.
Waleed Latif (21) graduated from RMIT, faculty of technology, design and entrepreneurship, and was immediately hired at a store that sells supplies for body builders in Werribee, Australia. Ashwin Kumar (23) however, allegedly comes from a wealthy family, and according to sources he was the initiator of the trip to Europe.
Before they deactivated their respective accounts on social networks, the three did not express a shred of remorse for a soul destroying crime committed while ”having a great time” on holiday in Croatia. The Age, which is a popular Australian news source, writes that Djohan posted a photo of himself sitting on the walls of Dubrovnik on his Instagram account with the caption: “I experienced a revelation as I sat on the stone wall in Dubrovnik, a gentle voice told me that my purpose in life is to go to bed with heavenly blessed beauties.” A remorseless echo of the crime he and his counterparts had committed against a defenceless young girl.
Immediately after buying his freedom, Djohan laughed and joked with a flight attendant and said that he now finally has the opportunity to join the ”mile high club”.
