Video: Violent Thunderstorm Hits Istria, Strong Wind Knocks Down Trees

Total Croatia News

Everyone in Croatia has been desperately wishing for the heatwave to die down. Now we’re finally getting what we hoped for… but it caught us by surprise. After a hot summer day, violent storm followed by heavy thunder struck Istria earlier tonight, reports Index on August 6, 2017.

The storm hit from the west, swamping the peninsula with torrential rain accompanied by strong wind. In the city of Rovinj, the water level raised so rapidly, the stores in the centre started to get flooded in 10 minutes.

In a span of a few hours, the thunderstorm spread all over Istria, trees getting knocked down by tempestuous wind. According to Istramet, driving around central Istria is currently considered dangerous as the storm knocked over numerous trees onto the roads. Here’s what the road from Muntrilj to Tinjan looks like at the moment:

The storm wave continued to move further east and reached Rijeka around 22:00.
