August 28, 2023 – After yet another heat wave, it seems that there will be a new weather change in Croatia. Current heat vave warnings have now been replaced by those for heavy rain, thunderstorms, hail, strong and stormy winds. At the same time, especially from Tuesday, it will be significantly cooler than in the past days, and unstable “only” until Thursday, reports HRT/Index.

The Croatian Civil Protection issued warnings for the coming days.

“The DHMZ issued an orange warning for today for thunderstorms throughout the country. The change should start in the morning in the northern Adriatic, and in the rest of the country it will come during the day as well,” writes the Croatian Civil Protection.

“Locally, heavy rain is possible in a shorter time, very strong and even stormy wind and hail, while the possibility of the appearance of gale tornadoes at sea cannot be ruled out either. Be prepared for severe thunderstorms that can cause extensive damage and protect yourself from lightning. Damage to property and trees is possible. Local flash floods, stormy wind gusts, and hail are possible. Interruptions in outdoor activities and traffic are possible,” they write.

Today’s forecast, DHMZ

Unstable and less warm days to follow

In the northern Adriatic, showers and thunderstorms are possible starting in the night from Sunday to Monday. During Monday, both at sea and in the mountains, very unstable – local thunderstorms, heavy rain, and hail are possible. At the same time, strong winds to blow from the south and southwest in places, and the heat will subside.

It will be hot in Dalmatia as well, with the highest air temperature of 32 to 35 °C. From the middle of the day, there is a very high probability of a more pronounced wind with rain, and gale tornadoes are also possible at sea. The sea will also be wavy due to the strong southerly and southwesterly winds.

It will be relatively wavy and windy in the south of Croatia. The first part of the day will be mostly sunny – the air temperature in the morning will be between 25 and 27 °C, and the highest daily temperature up to 33 °C. In the afternoon and especially in the evening, the probability of a stronger thunderstorm increases – along with heavy precipitation in a short time, there may be flash floods and urban floods.

Unstable in central Croatia as well. Showers and thunderstorms are possible in the morning and in the afternoon, and they will be especially frequent and intense in the second part of the day, when storms accompanied by hail and strong winds are also possible.

The last place that the weather change in Croatia will affect is the east of the country. Most of the day there will pass with prevailing sunny weather, with the temperature rising to 37 °C. Towards the evening, showers and thunderstorms will occur in places, possibly stronger with hail.

Unstable and LEss Warm Rest of the Week

The weather will remain unstable in the continental area for the rest of the week with occasional rain, locally in the form of more pronounced showers accompanied by thunder, and the air temperature will gradually drop. In the second half of the week, the weather should calm down.

Stronger showers and thunderstorms are expected in places along the coast, a possibility of gale tornadoes on the sea, and strong southerly winds on Tuesday, which will weaken on Wednesday.
