After a successful crowdfunding campaign for her wine workshops, famous Croatian sommelier Jelena Šimić Valentić will make her dream come true and open a wine culture concept boutique – Pupitres bar in September.
Located in the heart of the city, at Frankopanska 1, Pupitres will be a place for promoting wine culture in Croatia, and, in addition to top wines, visitors will be able to enjoy great coffee, homemade food, and jazz music. Wine schools and workshops will take place at the bar, and there will also be a small library there, with books about wine, liquor, coffee, and tea.
“Pupitres bar is a place where wine culture lovers can meet and a central point for wine in the city. We will be able to work together at promoting Croatian wines and taking them to a higher level. My wish is to offer a personal approach to each guest, teach them about wines, and make them fall in love with it,” Ms Šimić Valentić said for Buro 24/7.
The wine list will contain more than 150 wines from Croatia and around the world. She has personally tasted and hand-picked all wines, coffee, tea, and liquor on the list, and it will reflect her personal viewpoint on hospitality, wines, winemakers, and wine culture.
“Zagreb is getting a place filled with wine, positive energy, and warm, hardworking, and educated staff who will personally open the door and greet you when you’re coming inside. In the morning, the intensive aroma of the best coffee, hot croissants, and cornflakes will fill the bar, in the afternoon, you will be able to rest or have a meeting here, and in the evening, you will be able to relax here, to the sounds of the guitar and jazz, try some top quality wines with wonderful people, eating prosciutto, cheese, finest Croatian virgin olive oil with homemade bread,” the sommelier announced.
The space where the bar will be located is currently undergoing a renovation process, and you can follow the progress on Pupitres Facebook page here, where Jelena shares bits of her personal advice, feelings, and some of the new products for the bar that she’s testing.
Designer Ivana Ferenčak will be in charge of the interior design.
“Jelena was the main inspiration for the decoration, and, of course, wine, the thing that will turn this place into a new hot spot in the city. The inspiration is visible everywhere: the champagne-coloured walls, red wine furniture, with a few rose-coloured details. Luxury stone floors will become warmer with the addition of several wooden details, and we know that wood is indispensable for the storage of wine,” Ms Ferenčak added.
