May the 6th, 2024 – Slovenians aren’t often in the spotlight when it comes to foreign workers in this country, but they enjoy working in Croatia despite the fact that they’re typically paid less than they would be at home.

As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, who would have thought that the neighbouring Slovenians could be the ones to come and help rescue the upcoming summer season from labour force issues? This will be the third season of working in Croatia for Slovenian national Tamara, according to N1.

“I love Dalmatia. I love everything to do with nature, I love Marjan. My boyfriend and I just decided that this time we would come and work the season there, and then somehow we just ended up staying,” said Tamara, a Slovenian waitress.

Her decision may sound bizarre for many Slovenians and those who are aware of the average conditions there being objectively better than they are in Croatia. It will definitely raise an eyebrow or two if we take into account that, according to data for last year, the average monthly gross salary of waiters in Croatia was almost 1,200 euros, and in Slovenia it was slightly more than 1,400 euros per month. However, Tamara is satisfied with the conditions in she has working in Croatia regardless of all of the above.

“We got our apartment through an agency first, and now we’re renting one through the owner, so it’s great. The apartment is also great, we’re more than satisfied. It’s not much money for us, the rent is not expensive. I’m also satisfied with the working conditions, so everything is OK with me,” concluded the waitress.
