June the 16th, 2023 – USKOK (Office for the Suppression of Corruption and Organised Crime) has made multiple arrests as part of a Zagreb driving school corruption case.

As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, as many as twenty people were arrested this week as part of an USKOK operation. The police have sufficient reason to believe that a Zagreb driving school corruption case could be like opening pandora’s box when it comes to a spate of illegal certificate issuance.

Fake driving certificates?

As Telegram reports, at the moment, corrupt criminal offences are suspected, and the information was confirmed to the portal by sources close to the investigation. According to what has been found so far, the illegal issuance of certificates to professional drivers is suspected in this particular corruption case.

Several hundred euros for a fake license?

It is suspected that two companies allegedly issued driving licenses to drivers even though they had not undergone the necessary training, and the licenses were purchased for several hundred euros each. In addition to that, other suspects include numerous intermediaries who were actively finding buyers for these fake documents.

Not much else is known at this point in time

When it comes to the name of the driving school in question or the identities of the approximately twenty individuals who have been arrested and taken into custody, we don’t know a great deal given that this is an ongoing and very much active investigation into corruption.

It does seem however to be rather an elaborate system of selling fake documents and even engaging middlemen to weed out those who would discretely make such purchases, as indicated above.
