July the 14th, 2023 – The Museum of the City of Zagreb has a new offer for its visitors, the opening of “Dućkas”, a new kind of Zagreb museum souvenir shop.

As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, addition to literature that follows the theme of the museum and its display, many designers and artists from Zagreb will gather to offer visitors quality, local, Zagreb souvenirs that cannot be obtained elsewhere.

Something for everyone who loves Zagreb

The new Zagreb museum souvenir shop is geared towards those for whom Zagreb holds a very special place. There are books about Zagreb, mugs, t-shirts, bags… From practical things for everyday use to various memorabilia and decorations that are more obscure. Everyone involved agrees that this should have been done a long time ago, as reported by HRT.

“There are very museums that don’t have a place where, based on their setting, motif or city, such as the Zagreb City Museum, they can speak about and present literature and souvenirs at any given time,” said Tvrtko Jakovina, historian.

“A coaster, a notebook, pens and so on, we didn’t look at the prices, we just want to support the museum”, said Martina of the new Zagreb museum souvenir shop. The idea of Dućkas isn’t to make money, but to invest the money that is made in new collaborations and expanding what’s on offer.

“People like to take home a quality souvenir from a museum visit, and today we’ve finally fulfilled that wish of ours and that of our visitors,” explained Aleksandra Berberih Slana, the director of the Museum of the City of Zagreb.

“Perhaps if necessary, there may be restaurant in the future, but I don’t think we could have gone on without a museum shop,” said Veljko Mihalić of the Department of Culture in Zagreb.

Photos of nineteenth century Zagreb were presented

The photo catalogue of Ivan Standl, a famous Zagreb photographer from the nineteenth century, one of the first to photograph the city outside the comfort of his own studio, was also presented.

“Standl photographed landscapes, and he also collaborated with numerous institutions, museums and galleries. In doing that, he created a valuable contribution not only to the photographic history but also to the documentary and cultural history of Zagreb,” said Dunja Nekić, the author and curator of the exhibition “Ivan Standl, Zagreb photographer”.

The working hours of the new Zagreb museum souvenir shop Dućkas will be identical to the working hours of the museum, and visitors will be greeted by something new every time.
