You won’t have to dodge arrows, but you can explore locations where ten movies about a fictional Apache chief Winnetou were filmed in the most pristine natural sights of Croatia. These include national parks Paklenica, Plitvice Lakes, Velebit and Zrmanja canyon.
The character was created by German writer Karl May, with the original movies made from 1962 to 1968, with a recent trilogy made in 2015.
You can also visit the cowboy town made for the latest trilogy in the Fužine town area in Gorski Kotar region. If you tour Rastoke village near Plitvice Lakes, you will find a totem from the original 1962 movie, as that was the location of an Indian village.
