In 384 BC, some Ancient Greeks from the island of Paros sailed into a deep bay on the island of what is today called Hvar. They colonised and settled.
Some 2400 years later, one of the oldest towns in Stari Grad is celebrating its 2400 year birthday, with President Kolinda Grabar Kitarovic among the guests at the three-day celebrations.
One of the legacies of the Greek visit all those years ago is the neighbouring Stari Grad Plain, one of Croatia’s 8 UNESCO World Heritage Site.
It is a magical town, with a very bright future to match its illustrious past.
Happy Birthday, Stari Grad!
