Photo of the Day: Pakleni Islands, Guardians of Hvar Town

A destination which really has it all. 

The sunniest island in Europe. The most UNESCO heritage of any island in the world. The oldest public theatre in Europe. The birthplace of organised tourism in Europe in 1868. 

And much, much more.

And… 

The Pakleni Islands, a group of emerald jewels in front of Hvar Town, which are the popular haunts to escape the crowds, 

And while they all look the same from the impressive view from the Spanish Fortress, there is plenty of diversity to explore. 

CNN’s top naturist beach in the world, one of the Adriatic’s top beach clubs, an arboretum, art gallery and assortment of animals, including peacocks. Roman ruins, a Roman mud bath, an eco-ethno island which until recently was inhabited only by a donkey named Mercedes. And even an island which a previous mayor offered to rename Facebook Island if only Mark Zuckerburg would join the growing list of celebrities who come to visit this paradise.
