August 6, 2023 – One of Croatia’s most important cultural traditions takes place for the 308th time, as Ivo Zorica once more wins the Sinjska Alka.

All eyes on the inland Dalmatian town of Sinj today with the Prime Minister of Croatia and Presidents of Croatia and Hungary in attendance for the 308th SInjska Alka, a traditional knights’ tournament that has taken place annually since the Siege of Sinj by the Ottomans way back in 1715.

This year’s event was won once again by Ivo Zorica from the famous Zorica Alkar family. Zorica beat off the challenge of Tino Radanovic in a tight finale.

Ivo Zorica made his Alka debut back in 2000, and he has won the main event once before, as well as 4 Baras and 5 Cojas (the preliminary events before the main day).

As with all Alkars, Ivo Zorica was born in the Sinj area. He is married with two children and works as an economic technician in the local PBZ bank in Split.

The Sinjska Alka is listed as UNESCO Intangible Heritage and you can learn more about it in the UNESCO video below.
