June 26, 2023 – Croatia captain Luka Modrić has officially extended his contract with Real Madrid, confirming one more season at the Spanish club.

Real Madrid C.F. and Luka Modrić have agreed to extend the midfielder’s contract, linking the Croatian footballer to the club until June 30, 2024.

Luka Modrić arrived at Real Madrid in 2012. In his eleven seasons defending Real Madrid, he has played 488 games and won 23 titles: 5 Champions League, 5 Club World Cups, 4 European Super Cups, 3 Leagues, 2 Copas del Rey and 4 Super Cups in Spain.

During his career as a Real Madrid player, Modrić has won the highest individual awards, such as the 2018 Ballon d’Or, The Best FIFA Player Award 2018, the 2017/18 UEFA Player of the Year Award, and the Club World Cup 2017. This season, he was also part of the FIFA/FIFPro World XI for the sixth time in his career.

In addition, he was the Golden Ball winner at the 2018 World Cup in Russia and won the Bronze Ball at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

This is likely good news for Croatia fans, as Luka will likely announce one more year with the national team, taking him through the 2024 Euros as his final tournament.
