SAMPLES ARE FROM THE MARKET

 

–Champion – 99 – 100 (or: 19,9 – 20 / 4,9 – 5,0) pts = Brilliant! Impressive! Unique!

–Great gold medal – 95 – 98 (19,5 – 19,8 / 4,5 – 4,8) = Excellent,  with character, elegant, classic great wine.

–Gold medal – 90 – 94 (18,6 – 19,4 / 4,0 – 4,4) = outstanding, multilayered, with high style and a big personality.

–Silver medal – 85 – 89 (17,5  – 18,5 / 3,0 – 3,9) = very good and typical, complex, convincing, with chances to develop even more, for the exigent consumer.

80 – 84 (15,5 – 17,4 / 2,1 – 2,9) = varietaly recognizable, in a certain determinate style, solid, not exciting.

 71 – 79 (11,0 – 15,4 / 1,1 – 2,0) = average, ordinary, with no virtues and no significant to strong flaws, still acceptable for everyday use.

Samples are taken from sources with adequate wine storage and expert staff, so inappropriate storage effects should be excluded. If a classic scent or taste is found on the cap (TCA), the samples is retasted from another bottle. A sample is immediately rejected if at least two thirds of the jury decides so. For a quality/price comparison the wine needs at least 85 points out of 100, or 17.5 points from 20, or 3 on a scale to 5.

DESIGN: decent • label: recognisable from a distance – simple – two sections – readable, clear: good.

WINE is complex, substantial, rich, spruced up, harmonious, still young. Although good with food, better to keep it for a while, it is on the rise and needs time in the bottle. Looks lively, clear, green-yellow, finely presented on the nose, full, fruity (fruit: domestic/green; white/pit/apple), floral, mineral. In the mouth very lively, full, salty, with quality acids. In body & structure very god, lively long ending.

■ DESIGN: decent • label: recognisable from a distance – simple – two sections – readable, clear: good.

WINE is interesting, complex, substantial, rich, with character, serious, harmonious, fresh, plenty of liveliness. Coherent with: terroir, typology, sort. Still young, needs time in the bottle. On the rise. Looks lively, clear, straw-yellow. Intense on the nose, but not aggressive, solid development. Points to fruitiness (fruit: domestic/white/pit/peach; southern/grape), floral (flowers: fresh/white), fig leaf – discreet, faint sense of wood. Salty in the mouth, with quality acids. Very good in body&structure, fresh pleasant bitter relatively long ending.

WINE is harmonious, spruced up, coherent with: terroir, typology, sort. In its prime. Looks lively and clear, straw-yellow. Discrete on the nose, points to fruitiness (fruit: domestic/white/pit), sense of wood – touch. Rounded in the mouth, with good acids, bitter. In body&structure good, bitter, medium long ending.

ALCOHOL: 13,0%

WINE is, unexpectedly, lacking in freshness. Looks lively, salty in the mouth, acids do not contribute to freshness. Good in body&structure.

WINE is unexciting, presenting as not clear. Discrete on the nose. Good acids in hte mouth. Good in body&structure.

 (L) ZLATAN PLAVAC 2010 barrique – ZLATAN OTOK/Plenković

HVAR ISLAND

VINEYARD: Sveta Nedjelja • slope • position: south – west • sort: Plavac Mali

CELLAR: grape selection • ageing:  barrique (225 ℓ)

ALCOHOL: superior with controlled origin • dry • 14,5%

BOTTLED in:  0,75 ℓ • bottle: normal – traditional wine bottle: yes • model, type: bordeaux • CAP: cork – serious

■ DESIGN: decent • label: recognisable from a distance – simple – two sections – readable, clear: good.

WINE is complex, serious, harmonious, authored. Warm, with plenty of liveliness. Fine tertiary bouquet, coherent with terroir, typology, sort, goes nicely with food, also with meditation. In its prime which can last. Looks lively, ruby-granite, dark, with good oiliness. Moderate on the nose, well developed reminds of fine burning, coffee, skin/nuance, volatile acids – acceptable and interesting, well presented fruitiness (fruit: domestic/red – simmered), spices (white pepper…) – well blended. Rounded in the mouth, live tannins but smooth. Salty, with quality acids, very good in body&structure, lively, bitter, long and warming ending.

() (XL) CAPLAR 2012 barrique – TOMIĆ    

HVAR ISLAND

VINEYARD: slope • sort: Cabernet Sauvignon & Plavac Mali

ALCOHOL: superior with controlled origin • dry • 14,0%

BOTTLED in: 0,75 ℓ • bottle: normal • model, type: bordeaux • CAP: cork – serious

DESIGN: elegant • label: attractive – original – recognisable from distance – two sections – clear, readable: good.

WINE is complex, spruced up, warm, with plenty of liveliness. Mild tertiary bouquet, appears to be in prime that can last. Looks lively, ruby-granite, transparent. Discrete on the nose, points to skin, burning and smoke/mild, chocolate, coffee, spices/with measure and well blended. Rounded in the mouth, polished tannins, salty. Very good in body&structure, salty and quite long warming ending. Retronasal: almond.

 (L) BONAPARTE PLAVAC 2015 – VINA ROTA    

PELJEŠAC, KUNA

VINEYARD: slope • sort: Plavac Mali

ALCOHOL: controlled origin • dry • 13,5 %

BOTTLED in: 0,75 ℓ • bottle: normal • model, type: bordeaux

DESIGN: neat

WINE is spruced up, clean, appears to have certain complexity. Warm, harmonious, very good body, solid presence in the mouth.

SERVING:    (stronger dishes) • 16-18° C

 

  (M) BOGOMDON 2015 – JAKO VINO 

MIDDLE AND SOUTH DALMATIA

VINEYARD, sort: Plavac Mali, Syrah, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon

ALCOHOL: 12,5 %

WINE is without finesse, degrading. In the mouth: tannins green, salty, with strong acids not helping freshness, bitter. Good in body&structure, bitter, medium long ending.

SERVING:   • 16° C

 

Sparkling wines

 (M) GODIMENT extra brut – JAKO VINO

MIDDLE AND SOUTH DALMATIA 

VINEYARD, sort: Pošip, Vugava, Chardonnay, Viognier

ALCOHOL: 11,5 %

WINE is fresh, light, likeable, uncomplicated, drinkable in the long run. Looks lively, pearling in many fine tiny bubbles. Points to fruitiness on the nose. Soft in the mouth, with good acids. Good in body&structure, fresh ending.

SERVING:  aperitif, refreshment • 8-10° C

 

 (XXL-XXXL) SABION 2014 – KORTA KATARINA

VINEYARD, sort: Pošip

ALCOHOL: 12,0 %

WINE presents itself without finesse, past its prime. Unusual appearance – strong yellow. Points to very ripe fruit on the nose, bitter ending in the mouth…

WINE is complex, spruced up and harmonious, plenty of liveliness, coherent with sort, drinkable. In its prime which could last. Looks lively, clear, discrete on the nose, points to mineralogy, fruitiness. Bitter in the mouth, quality acids, body&structure very good, medium long ending.

WINE is spruced up, neat, harmonious, in its prime. Looks lively, pink, points to fruitiness on the nose (fruit: domestic/red/pit), a note of mineralogy. Soft, salty in the mouth. Good in body&structure, bitter ending.

ALCOHOL: 14,0 %

WINE is complex, young, with mature markers. Plenty of liveliness, harmonious, spruced up, warm, drinkable, in prime that could last. Looks lively, dark red, full on the nose, points to fruitiness, well presented (fruit: domestic/red/pit: berries). Rounded in the mouth, with quality acids. Very good in body&structure, fresh, quite long ending.

ALCOHOL: 12.5 %

WINE is complex, mature and harmonious, likeable, drinkable. In its prime. Looks lively, finely presented on the nose, points to fruitiness, floral, honey-kiss, sense of yeast, noble mould-touch. Rounded in the mouth, salty, with good acids. Good to very good in body&structure.

WINE is spruced up, harmonious, complex, full, juicy, gets under your skin. Points slightly to noble mould. Rounded, drinkable.

BARANJA

VINEYARD, sort: Sauvignon

ALCOHOL: 12,5 %

WINE is harmonious, coherent with sort, to drink now. Points to floral on the nose, slight suggestion of sweetness in the mouth, salty.

 (M) CUVÉE BLANC 2015 – ANTUNOVIĆ

ERDUT

ALCOHOL: 12,0 %

WINE has a juvenile charge, fresh and lively. In its prime. Looks lively, clear. Moderate on the nose, points to mineralogy – touch, fruitiness. Salty in the mouth, god acids. Slender in body&structure, fresh bitter medium long ending.

SERVING: • 10° C

 

(M) ZELENI SILVANAC 2015 – ANTUNOVIĆ

ERDUT

VINEYARD, sort: Silvanac Green

ALCOHOL: 12,5 %

WINE has a juvenile charge, fresh, uncomplicated, in its prime. Looks lively, discrete on the nose, points to fruitiness. Salty in the mouth, good in body&structure.

 (M) CHARDONNAY 2015 – PINKERT

BARANJA

VINEYARD, sort: Chardonnay

ALCOHOL: 13,5 %

WINE presents as over developed, past its prime. Points to fruitiness on the nose, rounded in the mouth, suggests sweetness, salty, good in body&structure, medium long ending.

SERVING: • 12° C

 

(M) ROSÉ 2015 – PINKERT 

BARANJA

VINEYARD, sort: Frankovka

ALCOHOL: 12,0 %

WINE is uncomplicated, reserved on the nose, points to fruitiness, slender in body&structure, bitter ending.

SERVING:   • 10° C

 

TASTINGS at STARI PUNTIJAR and in ESPLANADE HOTEL *****

– Tastings by the Wine Stars Club with buyers guide ratings took place in the PUNTIJAR hotel in Gračani in Zagreb, followed by hotel ESPLANADE ***** in Zagreb. Two tasting took place close to each other due to vacation time.

In Puntijar hotel along with the permanent trio Vitomir Andrić, Ivo Kozarčanin and Željko Suhadolnik, reviewers were also enologist Ivica Perak, wine maker form Kutjevo and consultant in several wine cellar, as well as Boris Bernašek from the import and distribution company Vrutak. Wines were first poured by hotel and restaurant owner Zlatko Puntijar, followed by Nikola Brezić.

In Esplanade the trio was joined by sommelier Jelena Šimić Valentić, Ivan Dropuljić (Zagreb Vino.com), producer Boris Drenški Bodren, journalist Tomislav Radić. Wine was poured by Tomislav Klišanin.
